Imaging Services
Digital x-ray
X-ray is a fundamental imaging modality for the examination of the musculoskeletal system. It provides information about the bony structures, and is used for the identification of problems such as arthritis and fractures. It is performed and interpreted in our office by the patient's physician at the time of the visit, allowing for immediate recommendations based on the results. |
Ultrasound
Ultrasound uses sound waves rather than radiation to obtain images of the musculoskeletal system. Unlike x-ray, US is able to examine the soft tissue structures, such as tendons, bursae, and ligaments. This allows for the diagnosis of conditions such as bursitis and tendon tears. US is performed by the physician, not a technician. As a result, it has the advantage over other imaging modalities of providing real-time information while the study is being conducted. Diagnostic findings are able to be communicated directly to the patient at the time of the examination, and immediate recommendations can be made. Injections of joints, bursae, and tendon sheaths can also be performed using ultrasound guidance. When appropriate, US guidance can increase the accuracy of these injections. |
DXA
Our Hologic DXA scanner is located downstairs in our imaging center. DXA is used to assess the density of the bones of the spine, hip, and wrist. This information is used to make the diagnosis of osteopenia and osteoporosis, and to help guide management decisions. Results are interpreted by our physicians, ensuring an accurate diagnosis. For more information, visit our Osteoporosis Diagnostic and Treatment Center page. |
Laboratory Services
Phlebotomy and laboratory testing
Phlebotomy and laboratory testing may be carried out in our office. Testing performed in our lab includes complete blood count (CBC), basic metabolic panel (BMP), liver function testing (LFT), thyroid tests, vitamin D level, parathyroid hormone, urine studies, and testing for autoimmune conditions (e.g., rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, Sjogren's syndrome). |
Infusion Center
Medication administration
Many medications used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosis, and vasculitis require intravenous administration. Our infusion center is conveniently located in our Boca office, so patients do not have to travel to another site, such as the hospital, to have them done. Treatments that are available include Prolia, Reclast (zoledronic acid), Boniva (ibandronate), Stelara, Remicade, Rituxan, Orencia, Cimzia, Actemra, Simponi Aria, and Benlysta. |
